Meet:  Frith Road extension, Acton, behind CSIRO and ANBG.  Park your car near the electricity substation.  Look for banners

Wear:  hat, sunscreen, long-sleeved shirt, long pants, gloves, stout shoes.

ANBG Photographic Group Excursion Friday, 30 April 2021 - 8:30am

The photography group is replacing its normal meeting with an excursion to the Bendora Arboretum. This will be led by Graham Gall, one of the Photographic Group members, and will include tuition on photographing fungi and other beautiful aspects of the arboretum. Details will be sent via email to members.

David Taylor ‘Banksia Garden’ Thursday, 29 April 2021 - 12:30pm to 1:30pm

David will talk about some of the challenges, thinking, planning and collaboration that has gone into bringing this garden to reality, and why all the effort is worth it.

The talk will cover the background to the Park and the plans that are currently being put into place by the Trust to preserve and restore the natural environment and cultural values as far as possible in the context of major nearby urban development.

Professor Adrienne Nicotra and Dr Veronica Briceno Rodriguez ‘‘Living on the Edge: How do Plants of Threatened Ecological Communities Cope with Extreme Temperature?’ Thursday, 15 April 2021 - 12:30pm to 1:30pm

Adrienne and Veronica, from the Research School of Biology, ANU, will talk on a research partnership between the ANU, ANBG and Friends, the University of Technology Sydney, the Sydney Botanical Gardens, and Save the Species Program, which seeks to provide critical data on the physiological tolerances of Australian native species from alpine, desert and threatened ecological communities.

Growing Friends April Plant Sale Tuesday, 13 April 2021 - 9:00am to 10:00am

Growing Friends is having a COVID-safe plant sale on the morning of Tuesday 13 April. It will be held in the Growing Friends shadehouse, near the Banksia Centre carpark at the ANBG. This will be a timed entry sale. If you want to attend the sale then you MUST pre-register. Approximately 4 days before the sale you will be given a 10 minute window during which you can attend the sale and choose your plants. Time slots will be allocated in the order in which registrations are received. 

Dr Francisco Sanchez-Bayo ‘The decline of the entomofauna and its drivers’ Thursday, 8 April 2021 - 12:30pm to 1:30pm

Francisco, from the University of Sydney, will talk about the ecological implications of world-wide decline in the biodiversity of insects and the priority actions needed to stem them will be discussed.

Botanic Art Group Exhibition - From the Desert to the Sea Saturday, 3 April 2021 - 9:30am to Sunday, 2 May 2021 - 4:30pm

The exhibition, in the Visitors Information Centre Gallery, features a wide variety of native plants with a special focus on plants from arid regions.

Drive from Belconnen Way southwards along Caswell Drive towards Glenloch Interchange, Woden, or Tuggeranong. Note the yellow diamond shape advisory sign showing access road on left (mountain side) and the blue and white “P” sign for parking. Pull into the carpark carefully. Look for banners.

Dr Heidi Zimmer ‘The iconic Wollemi Pine’ Thursday, 1 April 2021 - 12:30pm to 1:30pm

Heidi, from the Centre for Australian National Biodiversity Research, will talk about her thesis which began with the question why are there so few medium-sized Wollemia nobilis individuals between the seedling and canopy tree size classes (i.e., between 2-20 m in height)?
