Crid will give an overview of how dispersal and disturbance interact to structure spatial patterns of biodiversity and will focus on research on diverse Southern Hemisphere systems including shallow water marine communities in the sub-Antarctic.

Dr Ann Moyal ‘Robert Brown in Australia’ Thursday, 7 June 2018 - 12:30pm

Ann, an historian, will talk on Robert Brown who spent nearly four years in ‘New Holland’ from 1801-04.  He gathered an immense collection of plants that laid the foundation of Australian botanical knowledge, and revitalized botanical science internationally

Walk in the Rainforest with Toby Golson Thursday, 7 June 2018 - 10:00am to Friday, 8 June 2018 - 9:45am

Join horticulturist Toby Golson on a walk in the Rainforest to see and hear about the new plantings from material collected on his field trip in 2014. That trip, and one in November 2017, were supported by the Friends and Toby is keen to share the results. Numbers are limited, bookings are essential. Bookings may be made, from early April, on the Eventarc website.

This walk will be repeated on 21 June.

We shall focus on removing non-local Billardiera heterophylla (Bluebell Creeper), Grevillea juniperina subsp. sulphurea, Hakea sericea, Acacia baileyana and other weeds. We may also be going into the southwest corner of the ANBG and Bushland Precinct.

Meet: at the corner of Clunies Ross Street and Black Mountain Drive, Acton. Look for banner.

We will be ferrying people to the weed area and no parking is permitted at that corner, so some wonderful weeders could park in the Botanic Gardens car park to avoid a parking fine.

Professor Robert Magrath ‘Alarm calls and eavesdropping in wild bird populations’ Thursday, 31 May 2018 - 12:30pm

Robert, will discuss how many birds give alarm calls to warn members of their own species about danger, but other species often listen in on these calls.  The talk will provide an overview of work focusing on common birds living in the Botanic Gardens

This talk will focus on recent developments in the creation of new management plans for 44 marine parks around Australia and steps to implement them

A new ‘Photographic Workshop’ to be held for all Friends of the ANBG. Get to know your Digital Camera better and take great photos. Run by the Friends of the ANBG Photographic Group - SOLD OUT.

Venue: Crosbie Morrison building

Details: Full day in two sessions: • Morning: classroom • Afternoon: practical application photographing around the Gardens.

Cost: $150.00 and must be a member of Friends of the ANBG.
