Thursday, 5 May 2016 - 12:30pm to 1:30pm

Doug is a retired diplomat with a long fascination in natural history, ornithology and how things in nature are connected. He is an ANBG educator, volunteer guide and member of the Thursday Talks’ committee.

In 2015 Doug Laing slowly travelled overland from Cairns to Cape York and dipped a toe into the waters of the Torres Strait. In this talk, which focuses primarily on the birds and flora of the region, he considers some of the hopes, challenges and contradictions affecting the Cape’s biodiversity during a time of dynamic change, including in land use and tenure.
