You are here

Sunday, 15 November 2015 - 1:00pm to Monday, 16 November 2015 - 12:45pm

In Australia, feral animals have a huge impact on native species, and are a major cause of decline in many of our threatened species. For example, feral cats alone impact over 142 threatened species of mammals, birds, reptiles and frogs. Control of feral animals can be complex and challenging.

Julie will provide an overview of the process of feral animal management – from the development of government policies to physical control in parks, reserves and on large-scale properties. This will include a discussion on how science is incorporated into feral animal control policies and programs, and the importance of monitoring and recording changes. It will also include the importance and practicalities of considering animal welfare issues in the development of control programs.

Julie Quinn has worked on feral animal policy for over 10 years with the Commonwealth Department of the Environment.

When and where: Sunday 15 November 1pm in the ANBG Theatrette (adjacent to the Visitor Centre).

This Special Talk is for Friends of ANBG and their guests, in conjunction with the launch of Kaye Kessing’s trilogy of books ‘Bilby’s Ring’, which will be launched at 10.30am in the Visitor’s Centre that day.
