Title: Vegetation assessment of the Coral Sea Marine Park coral cays

Summary: Over the past four years, Parks Australia have undertaken annual ecological assessment voyages to the cays of the Coral Sea Marine Park. The presentation will describe the methods and outcomes of vegetation assessments carried out during these voyages

Presenters: Joy and Larry Brushe are active volunteers for Gladstone Regional Council’s Tondoon Botanic Gardens, where they have developed Herbarium and living plant collection databases, and an interactive map of plants in the gardens. Also since retirement, they have been involved in a number of projects on coral cays on the southern Great Barrier Reef, including plant translocation, vegetation restoration, monitoring vegetation changes, weed eradication and data analysis. Joy has also written an ecosystem resilience plan for Lady Elliot Island for the Great Barrier Marine Park Authority (GBRMPA). Prior to their very active retirement, Joy worked for the Queensland Herbarium and the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service, and Larry worked as a mechanical engineer.
