Doug Laing ‘The Apothecary’s garden – a gem in London’s heart’

In a peaceful corner of affluent Chelsea, in the heart of London, there is a living medical chest – an apothecary’s garden. This talk traces the history of the Chelsea Physic Garden from its founding in 1673 to the present. This tiny garden has left an indelible mark on modern pharmacology and medicine, and occupies a place in history quite disproportionate to its size.

Doug Laing is a retired diplomat with a long fascination in natural history, ornithology and how things in nature are connected. He is an educator at the ANBG, a volunteer guide and a member of the Friends’ Thursday Talks Committee
