Peter will talk about the new conservatory which will establish the Gardens as the leading conservator of Australia’s native tropical flora from areas such as Christmas Island, Kakadu and northern Queensland. It is also expected to stimulate education and pioneering research into Australia’s tropical flora, and to contribute to the conservation of significant species

Peter Byron is currently acting Chief Operating Officer, Parks Australia at the federal Department of Environment. Prior to his current role, he has been the General Manager at the ANBG for the past few years and responsible for the operations of the Gardens in areas such as management of the living collection, major projects, visitor services and corporate services.

Peter has over 20 years’ experience in park and venue management and has worked at Commonwealth, State and Local Government levels.  This includes being General Manager of Tidbinbilla Nature Reserve, Director of Parklands and Visitor Services for the National Capital Authority, Operations Manager for Sydney Olympic Park during the Sydney Olympics, managing a range of Western Sydney Olympic venues in the leadup to the Olympics.  He started his career as a ranger in the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service
