At this meeting, David Taylor, Curator of Living Collections at the ANBG will give a talk on Eucalypts - their bark, flowers, foliage etc. After the talk he will lead a walk around the Gardens to show us weird and wonderful examples of Eucalypts. This will be a good introduction to the ANBG's Eucalyptus Week which is in March, and inspire some photography of Eucalypts in the Gardens. Venue: Theatrette at the ANBG. Members and non-members welcome. |

Wildlife and Botanical Artists Inc is holding its first quarterly meeting for 2016 on Saturday 20 February in the Banks Building at the Australian National Botanic Gardens. Joanne, a member of the CSIRO Executive in agribusiness, recently chaired a report on Australia’s agricultural future. The report outlines how farm output can be optimised by driving innovation through a strong research base. She is working towards retirement from CSIRO after 32 years. She is an evolutionary biologist with an interest in agricultural sciences and biodiversity informatics. During her time in CSIRO she became Chief of CSIRO Entomology and then on the CSIRO Executive in agribusiness. She chaired the expert working group on agriculture for ACOLA. |

Created by ACT Park Care group, the Friends of Black Mountain, this exhibition highlights the natural and cultural history of Black Mountain at the heart of Canberra. The exhibition is in the Visitor Centre Gallery at the Australian National Botanic Gardens. It is open daily from 9.30am to 4.30pm. Admission is free. |

Adrian Gibbs is a virologist. He and his wife Pat are ANBG devotees, and were undergraduate students in the Botany Depart of Imperial College, University of London from 1953-1956. Adrian first played with a virus in 1955 in a prac class, and never gave up. Until 1966 he worked on crop and bee viruses at Rothamsted, which is the world's oldest agricultural research station and most famous for its long term agronomy experiments, and also for the discovery of 'super phosphate' and the invention of pyrethroids.
