This year we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the founding of the Friends of the Australian National Botanic Gardens. Our anniversary dinner on 19 February was sold out weeks ahead.
Ninety members gathered at Café Floresco in the Gardens. We were especially delighted to be joined by two key people from our early days, Anne Joyce and David Young.
Our guest speaker was historian Associate Prof. Don Beer. Don, a very active member of the Friends, told us about developments leading up to the founding of the Friends and the early years of our existence. His topic was:
‘… already a force to be admired’ (28 August 1990): The Creation and Subsequent History of the Friends of the ANBG.
Don has very kindly agreed that the transcript of his talk be published on this website.
The Friends’ Social Events and Activities Committee hope to hold another celebration later in the year. Watch this website for details.
