Abstract
Mysterious, elusive, and utterly unique, the platypus isn’t just an Aussie icon—it’s a living barometer for waterway health. As an indicator species, their presence (or absence) tells us a lot about the state of our creeks and rivers. This talk dives into the secret life of the platypus, the pressures they face, and how their populations provide crucial insights for waterway managers. From pollution levels to habitat degradation, discover how these monotreme marvels help us read the health of our freshwater ecosystems—and what we can do to protect them.
