We are all looking forward to the Thursday Talks in 2022, especially after the talks program for this year was so affected by the COVID-19 restrictions.

Thursday Talks are planned to start on Thursday 3 February 2022.

One of our early speakers next year is Dr Sophie Lewis, ACT Commissioner for Sustainability and the Environment. Sophie will talk about climate change, and human influences on past, present and future extreme climate events in Australia, as well as asking whether our recent extremes are a sign of a 'new normal', and how bad could it get?

We will also hear Dr Penny Olsen talking about rebuilding a population of Norfolk Island Morepork; and Con Boekel, a local conservationist, talking about potential extinction of birds of the inner north, and the potential implications for the urbanization of the Lower Molonglo.

Precision landscape regeneration will be Professor Justin Borevitz’s topic, which will include methods in eucalyptus foundation species to rebuild agro-ecosystems, methods for boosting soil carbon with microbes and the role Australia can have for world’s planetary health and resilience.

The full details of the talks scheduled for the first part of the year will be published in the website calendar and the next issue of Fronds.

Here's hoping for fewer restrictions and a much better year next year!
