COMPETITION INFORMATION

This competition is held during the latter part of each year.
The competition is restricted to Years 7 to 12 students attending, at the time of the competition, a High School or Secondary College within the ACT and Queanbeyan Region, and all photographs must be taken within the Australian National Botanic Gardens, featuring some aspect such as plants, wildlife, scenery, people enjoying the Gardens.

An Information Package containing details of the competition and entry forms is forwarded to A.C.T. and Queanbeyan High Schools and Colleges during May/June.   When changes are made to the competition rules or categories, they are advised in the Information Package for that particular year.

The competition provides an excellent opportunity for students to become aware of the value and beauty of the Australian National Botanic Gardens, which are devoted to our native plants, and, by exercising their photographic skills, to share that beauty with others.

Categories are :

High Schools (Years 7 - 10) : Black and White
High Schools (Years 7 - 10) : Colour

Colleges/High Schools (Years 11 - 12) :        Black and White
Colleges/High Schools (Years 11 - 12) :        Colour

Open (Years 7 - 12) :    People in the Gardens
Open (Years 7 - 12) :    Photographic Effects

(All photographs can be taken by digital or film cameras - the Photographic Effects category relates to photographs which have been manipulated on the computer or in dark room developing.)

Cash prizes are awarded for each category and an additional award is given for the benefit of the Photographic Department of the School/College whose student is awarded the First Prize in each category.

All entries are displayed for public viewing for a number of weeks, with the prizewinning and commended entries remaining on display for a further period.

Scans of the prizewinning and commended entries are also added to this web site, and the Photographic Competition Index button below will connect you to winning entries since 1997.
