Speaker: Dr Mark Wallace, currently working with the Australian National Herbarium, Canberra.

Talk summary: Mark will talk about the work he did during his PhD at the University of Western Australia. He studied a group of plants (sedges; Lepidosperma) that are threatened by the expansion of iron ore mining in Western Australia. He looked at the role of polyploidy (genome multiplication), hybridisation, and asexual reproduction in generating and maintaining diversity.
