Global carbon emissions from human activities have been growing relentless since the beginning of the Industrial Era, and the effects of climate change are already noticeable around the world. For the first time in international negotiations, over 160 countries will meet in Paris this December, under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, to establish an agreement to prevent climate change from reaching dangerous levels thought to be at 2 degrees C above preindustrial global temperature. What are the latest trajectories on greenhouse gases and what will happen in Paris?

Pep Canadell leads CSIRO’s work on understanding the links between the global carbon cycle and climate change.
